Apple is planning the most thorough reform of its operating system name to date. According to informed sources, the new system will use the year as an identifier rather than a version number. The current iOS 18 will be changed to "iOS 26", with simultaneous updates including iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26. This move aims to unify the brand identity and solve the confusion caused by the different initial release times of the current version numbers for each system, such as iOS 18, watchOS 12, macOS 15, and visionOS 2. It is reported that Apple will announce this change at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9th.
