Southwest Railway is nationalized. The British Labor Party government has launched a railway restructuring reform.
On May 25th, local time, the Southwest Railway Company in the UK officially returned to state ownership, becoming the first train operating company to be nationalized since the Labour Party came to power. This move was hailed by the UK's Department of Transport as a "new dawn for railway development." The Labour government stated that they will push for several more railway companies to gradually return to public ownership. According to the plan, by 2027, seven companies including West Midlands Railway, East Midlands Railway, Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, Great Western Railway, and others will be brought into the public management system. The government's goal is to achieve comprehensive nationalization of all passenger railways in England, Scotland, and Wales by 2030.
