On May 23rd local time, an accident occurred at the Seventh Shaft of the Kloof gold mine near Westonaria in the southwest of South Africa's Gauteng Province. Approximately 300 miners were trapped in an operating area about 3 kilometers deep underground. The accident was caused by the mining equipment cabin door accidentally opening during the hoisting process, causing ore to fall and damage the shaft. As of now, there have been no reports of casualties. The mining company stated that they are currently organizing the miners for orderly placement, keeping them at safe underground locations waiting for rescue. Relevant departments are working on repairing the shaft urgently, with the expectation that the miners will be safely brought to the surface by the latest evening of May 23rd South African time.
