According to The Wall Street Journal, the startup company Crusoe has received a new financing commitment of $1.16 billion for the construction of a data center in Texas for OpenAI. This will expand a crucial hub for improving the long-term computational capabilities of the ChatGPT manufacturer. Crusoe stated that this debt and equity financing mix will expand the data center from two buildings to eight, increasing the total project's collateral to $15 billion. Both Crusoe and the investment firm Blue Owl Capital will be injecting funds into the data center project in this round of financing. It is reported that the data center is planned to be completed next year and is expected to become the largest data center used by OpenAI. Each building will operate up to 50,000 NVIDIA Blackwell chips, which are commonly used for training large language models.
