As one of the measures to address the problem of "overtourism", the Spanish government is seeking to have nearly 66,000 residential properties removed from the short-term rental platform Airbnb. The British Broadcasting Corporation reported on the 20th that these properties are located in six regions, including Madrid, Andalusia, Catalonia, Valencia, the Basque Country, and the Balearic Islands. The government believes that these properties being listed on Airbnb as accommodation for tourists have many violations, such as not reporting permit numbers, reporting incorrect permit numbers, and not specifying the specific category of landlord, therefore they advocate for their removal.
