Volvo Cars and Google's parent company Alphabet announced on Tuesday that the Swedish automaker has become a key development partner for the Android Automotive operating system. This move will allow Volvo owners to receive system updates ahead of competing brands. Alwin Bakkenes, Volvo's global software engineering director, said, "We will be able to deliver new features, functionalities, and experiences to customers faster. This will indeed give us an advantage in creating an exceptional customer experience." Currently, Volvo models run on the Android 13 system, and at the Google I/O developer conference in Mountain View, California, the two companies showcased the Volvo flagship electric SUV EX90 running on the Android 15 system - this latest version of the mobile operating system will be mass-produced and installed on vehicles later this year. Bakkenes emphasized, "Other automakers may have to wait for two years to get this latest version."
