Volvo Cars deepens cooperation with Google to jointly develop in-car Android system

Volvo Cars and Google's parent company Alphabet announced on Tuesday that the Swedish automaker has become the main development partner for the Android Automotive OS, allowing Volvo owners to receive system updates ahead of competitors' brands. Alwin Bakkenes, Volvo's global software engineering chief, said, "We will be able to deliver new features, new capabilities, and new experiences to customers more quickly. This really puts us at an advantage in creating exceptional customer experiences." Currently, Volvo models are running on the Android 13 system, and at the Google I/O developer conference held in Mountain View, California, the two companies showcased the Volvo flagship electric SUV EX90 running on the Android 15 system this latest version of the mobile operating system will be mass-produced and installed in cars later this year. Bakkenes emphasized, "Other automakers may have to wait two years to get this latest version."
