The eighth West Lake Conference with the theme of "Building a Strong Capital Engine and Empowering New Production Forces" was held in Hangzhou on May 21. Huang Qifan, academic advisor of the Chinese Financial Forum of 40 People and former mayor of Chongqing, said in his keynote speech that after more than ten years of development, China's manufacturing industry has made significant progress in ten major fields, leading globally or running alongside developed countries. The situation where Chinese manufacturing was "big but not strong" and mainly focused on medium-to-low-end products has now transformed into being "big and relatively strong" or "big and strong". From the formulation of the 2025 "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan", comprehensive implementation from 2026 to 2030, to the long-term development goals of 2040, the central government has outlined a clear direction for how Chinese manufacturing should develop: promoting the development of new production forces. New production forces will become the strongest driving force for the development of Chinese manufacturing in the "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan" and even in the long-term plan for 2040.
