Musk said on Tuesday that his company Tesla and AI company xAI will continue to purchase chips from semiconductor giants Nvidia and AMD in the future, and may also choose other suppliers. The Tesla CEO revealed that xAI has deployed 200,000 GPUs at the Colossus computing facility in Memphis, Tennessee, and plans to build a new supercomputing center in the suburbs of Memphis equipped with one million GPUs, but did not disclose the specific order quantity or completion schedule. "A few years ago, I made a very obvious prediction - the bottleneck for AI development will be chips," Musk said. Last year, he asked Nvidia to prioritize the supply of GPUs to xAI in large quantities, even before Tesla. Musk predicts that the current bottleneck for AI development caused by chips will soon shift to a shortage of "electric power equipment," with AI companies facing a "fundamental shortage of electricity supply" as early as mid-2026.
