On May 20th local time, the Santiago Fire Department in the Chilean capital reported that due to the detection of a strong gas odor in multiple areas, numerous buildings in downtown Santiago were evacuated on a large scale, including the La Moneda Palace, the official residence of the Chilean President. According to reports, besides smelling gas, many people reported symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, and even fainting. The Chilean government quickly took action to evacuate the presidential palace and nearby buildings, coordinating emergency efforts with the fire department and military police. The Santiago Fire Department mobilized 14 fire trucks and a specialized team to track down the source of the gas leak.
