Dallas Fed President Logan: The Fed should strengthen its interest rate control mechanisms.
Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Lorie Logan stated that the central bank of the United States should consider strengthening mechanisms to more effectively prevent currency market interest rates from soaring when there is pressure in the market. In a speech prepared for the 2025 financial markets conference at the Atlanta Fed, Logan once again called for encouraging more banks to use the discount window and focusing on central clearing repo tool operations. She will also host a panel discussion on the role of non-bank institutions in the U.S. treasury and currency markets that day. Logan also pointed out that the Fed should focus on a broader range of market interest rates, not just the federal funds rate. "In my view, interest rate control is not just about maintaining the federal funds rate within the target range," she said.
