"Focus on 'One World, One Health' The 78th World Health Assembly opens in Geneva"

The 78th World Health Assembly will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from May 19 to 27 with the theme of "One World, One Health". The Assembly will review the biennial budget for 2026-2027, which is part of the 14th General Programme of Work of the World Health Organization. To address current financial pressures, the budget has been reduced from the initial plan of $5.3 billion to $4.267 billion. Additionally, the Assembly will push for sustainable financing reforms. On May 20th, a high-level fundraising event will be held to call for support from countries and charitable organizations for the core work of the World Health Organization. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has referred to this Assembly as a "historic moment", marking a crucial phase in global health cooperation.
