Lei Jun talks about Xiaomi's SoC large chips: That is not "black history", that is the road we came from.
Xiaomi's founder, Chairman, and CEO Lei Jun posted a long article on Weibo, reviewing the history of Xiaomi's development of big chips. Lei Jun said that many people ridiculed the development of the Surge SoC, but he wanted to say that it was not our "dark history," it was the path we took. Lei Jun mentioned that in September 2014, the Surge project was established. In 2017, Xiaomi's first mobile phone chip "Surge S1" was officially launched, positioned in the mid-to-high end. Later, due to various reasons, they encountered setbacks and suspended the development of big chips, but still kept the spark of chip development and turned to the "small chip" route. Lei Jun said that later, Xiaomi's Surge various chips were successively launched, including fast charging chips, battery management chips, image chips, antenna enhancement chips, etc., accumulating experience and capabilities in different technology fields. "In recent years, many Mi fans have been asking if Xiaomi will still develop big chips?" Lei Jun said, "There are also various rumors online, and many people ridicule the Surge SoC for not having a follow-up, but I want to say, that is not our 'dark history,' it is the path we took."
