French Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot called on European filmmakers on the 17th to defend the local film industry. On the same day, Bachelot spoke at the Cannes Film Festival, stating that over one-third of the 107 films selected for this year's festival come from France. However, 60% of the films seen by European audiences come from the United States. Bachelot said that it is necessary to enforce the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive to require platforms like Netflix to invest in European creative works, while also strengthening the circulation and promotion of European local works and "co-producing more works" to ensure the continued vitality of the European film industry.
