Mertz believes that Yu Xin Bank currently has no risk of acquiring a German commercial bank.
German Chancellor Merkel said on Saturday that she does not see any risk in the acquisition of Deutsche Bank by Italy's UniCredit at the moment. "The bank's current stake in Deutsche Bank is below the threshold required to launch a takeover bid," Merkel said at a press conference in Rome with Italian Prime Minister Meloni, "It is currently unclear whether they will reach or exceed this threshold." Merkel stated that she did not discuss UniCredit during the one-hour meeting with Meloni. "We did not discuss UniCredit, but we are happy to discuss it next time we have the opportunity, there is currently no reason to discuss it," Merkel added, "The federal government and I personally have made our stance on this takeover attempt known." German Finance Minister Lars Klinbauer said on Friday, "We are committed to maintaining the independence of Deutsche Bank," and called UniCredit's actions "unfriendly" and "unacceptable."
