The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced on May 16th that it has approved a $20 billion deal for telecommunications company Verizon to acquire Frontier Communications. The FCC stated that this deal will bring billions of dollars in new infrastructure construction funds to communities across the United States, including rural areas, accelerating the transition from old copper wire networks to modern high-speed networks. It is expected that after the completion of the deal, Verizon will deploy fiber optics to at least 1 million American households annually.
