BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu recently stated that BYD will establish its European headquarters in Hungary. This move is aimed at strengthening BYD's presence in the European market and improving service efficiency. It is reported that BYD's European center will create 2,000 job positions and will have three functions: sales and after-sales service hub, testing facilities, and base for developing localized vehicle models. Currently, BYD is selling three pure electric vehicle models, including ATTO 3 (Yuan PLUS), Dolphin, and Sea Lion, in the Hungarian market, and has already opened two channel stores in the capital city of Budapest. BYD had previously started investing in building factories in Hungary. In 2016, BYD announced the establishment of its first factory in Europe in the northwest city of Komrom, Hungary, for producing electric buses, which started production in 2017. In December 2024, BYD announced that it will build a new energy vehicle complete production base in the city of Szeged, Hungary. The base will be constructed in phases, with the expectation of creating thousands of job positions locally and an investment exceeding 1 billion euros. This will be the first passenger car factory established by a Chinese automotive company in Europe.
