The Transport and Logistics Bureau of Hong Kong is concerned about the current illegal "white plate vehicle" services provided by online car-hailing platforms. The government will meet with the platform companies today to reiterate that their operations must comply with the law. Yesterday, the Hong Kong bureau and the Transport Department held a detailed two-hour meeting with the taxi industry to discuss industry concerns about improving taxi services, regulating online car-hailing platforms, and cracking down on illegal passenger transport for reward. The bureau and the Transport Department carefully listened to and exchanged views with the industry. After the meeting, the bureau received a petition letter and signatures from the industry, which they will carefully consider and maintain close communication with the industry. As for the legislative proposals for regulating online car-hailing platforms, the bureau is currently pushing forward at full speed to ensure that the general public and travelers can enjoy safe and convenient point-to-point services.
