As the Hang Seng Index Company seeks to expand the index to better reflect market structure, PopMart is expected to be a popular candidate for inclusion in the upcoming quarterly review of the Hang Seng Index. Brian Freitas, founder of Periscope Analytics, pointed out in a report that the phenomenal price increase of PopMart in the past year has the potential to qualify it for inclusion in the Hang Seng Index. The short positions of the stock are currently near their lows. So far this year, the price of PopMart has more than doubled. Several analysts also mentioned that biopharmaceutical giant BeiGene and Italian fashion brand Prada may also be included in the Hang Seng Index. The Hang Seng Index Company will announce the results of the quarterly review on Friday, and any adjustments to the constituent stocks will take effect on June 9. Although the index company plans to eventually expand the number of constituent stocks in the Hang Seng Index to 100, the number of constituent stocks in the index remains unchanged in the review results announced in February, with only one company added last year, bringing the total number of constituent stocks to 83.
