On May 15th, the Vice President of Operations of TSMC, Zhang Zongsheng, stated at a technology forum that TSMC plans to build an average of 3 new factories per year from 2017 to 2020, and an average of 5 new factories per year from 2021 to 2024. They will further accelerate their pace this year and it is estimated that globally, 9 new factories will be built, including 8 wafer factories and 1 advanced packaging factory. Zhang Zongsheng revealed that Fab 20 in Hsinchu and Fab 22 in Kaohsiung will be the production bases for 2 nanometer technology, with both factories scheduled to start construction in 2022 and begin production this year. Fab 25 in Taichung will start construction at the end of this year and is expected to produce more advanced technology than 2 nanometers by 2028 (source: Jiemian News).
