The International Energy Agency released the "Global Electric Vehicle Outlook 2025" report on May 14th. The report shows that despite global economic uncertainties, the electric vehicle market continues to grow strongly. It is expected that by 2025, global electric vehicle sales will surpass 20 million units, accounting for over a quarter of total new car sales. The report mentions that in 2024, global electric vehicle sales reached 17 million units, a year-on-year increase of about 25%, for the first time accounting for over 20% of the global automotive market; in the first quarter of 2025, global electric vehicle sales increased by 35%, showing significant momentum. The report also shows that the Chinese market continues to lead, with electric vehicle sales exceeding 11 million units in 2024, accounting for nearly half of domestic new car sales. Emerging markets in Asia, Latin America, and other regions are also growing rapidly, with annual growth rates exceeding 60%. The International Energy Agency predicts that if countries fulfill their energy and climate commitments as scheduled, electric vehicles will account for over 40% of global new car sales by 2030.
