In April, the tariff revenue in the United States surged, which helped to restrain the further expansion of the budget deficit. However, as President Trump seeks to reach trade agreements with countries subject to tariffs, future tariff revenue may decrease. Data from the U.S. Treasury Department shows that tariff revenue in April was $16 billion, a significant increase of $9 billion from the same period last year, representing a growth rate of 130%. According to compiled data, this is the highest monthly tariff revenue record in at least a decade. A Treasury Department official stated that this growth reflects the impact of the Trump administration's increase in tariffs. Trump announced on April 2nd that "equitable" tariffs would be imposed on dozens of countries. He also introduced a new 10% tariff on "Liberation Day".
