NRG Energy plans to invest $12 billion to acquire power generation assets.
NRG Energy announced it will acquire a series of natural gas power facilities from LS Power Equity Advisors for $12 billion, as the Houston-based energy company is betting on the growing demand for electricity in the United States. NRG Energy stated on Monday that the acquisition of LS Power's portfolio of natural gas power assets and commercial and industrial virtual power plant platform will be done through a cash and common stock transaction. With the addition of 18 natural gas power facilities with a total installed capacity of approximately 13 gigawatts, NRG's power generation capacity will double. These facilities, located in nine states across the United States, will significantly expand NRG's power generation footprint in the Northeast and Texas, where the company's electricity load is mainly concentrated.
