Local time on the evening of May 11th, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met with World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in Geneva. He Lifeng stated that the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core is the cornerstone of international trade and plays an important role in global economic governance. All parties should resolve differences and disputes through equal dialogue within the framework of the World Trade Organization, jointly uphold multilateralism and free trade, and promote stability and smooth operation of global industrial and supply chains. China will continue to actively participate in the reform of the World Trade Organization, support the organization in playing a role as a global trade stabilizer, uphold the legitimate rights and interests of developing members, and make greater contributions to addressing global challenges. He Lifeng also briefed on the China-U.S. high-level economic and trade talks. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala stated that global economic and trade growth is facing serious challenges, and members of the World Trade Organization should jointly defend an open and rules-based multilateral trading system, strengthen dialogue and cooperation on international trade issues, and enhance the role of the World Trade Organization in promoting trade liberalization, facilitation, and global sustainable development.
