On the evening of May 8th, Xi'an, Shaanxi encountered hail weather, and some citizens reported that there were leaks in multiple areas of the T5 terminal at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport. On May 9th, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport issued a statement stating that after the problem occurred, the airport immediately organized waterproof and anti-skid measures, properly guided passengers, and simultaneously conducted facility inspections. Through on-site inspections and monitoring footage, it was shown that during extreme weather conditions, there was a short period of heavy rainfall and a large amount of hail in certain areas of the T5 terminal, causing the roof drainage system to be blocked by hail buildup, leading to water leaking into the building through the drainage channel. Subsequently, the airport immediately activated the roof snow melting electric heating system used in winter to de-ice, and staff simultaneously climbed onto the roof to timely clear the ice blocks in the drainage channel, achieving effective water drainage and leak prevention by 8:40 p.m. that evening.
