According to Maanshan Iron & Steel (Group) Holdings Ltd. (referred to as "Maanshan Steel"), the pre-plated nickel battery steel developed by Maanshan Steel recently completed its first trial stamping production at a battery accessory company. Pre-plated nickel battery steel is a core structural material for high-end battery casings that has long relied on imports from abroad. Maanshan Steel initiated the development of this product in 2023, and the research and development project has been included in the key scientific and technological innovation plan of Anhui Province. It is reported that Maanshan Steel successfully overcame core technical challenges such as controlling the high uniformity of the nickel plating layer and the steel-plating layer interface bonding in the development and manufacturing of this product. The successful completion of the first trial stamping production means that it has taken a crucial step towards achieving localization and substitution in the process. Next, Maanshan Steel will work with downstream companies to accelerate the completion of full-process performance verification and strive to achieve mass production supply within the year.
