The Sichuan-Chongqing joint management of transboundary rivers in the Yangtze River main stem reaches a stable annual water quality of Grade II.
Reporters learned from the recent "Five-year Anniversary of the Cooperation Achievement of the Sichuan-Chongqing River Chief System" press conference that Sichuan and Chongqing have jointly established a cross-provincial Sichuan-Chongqing River Chief System Joint Promotion Office, coordinating water security, water resources, water environment, and water ecological collaborative governance. Over the past five years, Sichuan and Chongqing have worked together to carry out over 230 special actions such as sewage treatment, cleaning up rivers and lakes, rectifying sewage outfalls, and inspecting and rectifying illegal sand mining operations. They have promoted comprehensive management of key river basins such as Laoxi River, Daying River, and Nanxi River, and jointly overcome the most complex river management problem of the boundary river Copper Bowl River between Sichuan and Chongqing. The water quality of the Yangtze River main stream in the Sichuan-Chongqing section has reached Class II level on average annually, and the water quality compliance rate of 25 cross-border sections in Sichuan and Chongqing has reached 100%, an increase of 4 percentage points compared to before the implementation of the joint Sichuan-Chongqing River Chief System.
