NATO's annual report exaggerates the so-called "Chinese nuclear threat", Ministry of National Defense responds
This afternoon, the spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense issued a statement on recent military-related issues. NATO recently released its annual report stating that China has become a "systemic challenge" to NATO, rapidly expanding its nuclear arsenal, threatening the interests, security, and values of NATO member countries. The spokesperson commented on this, saying that the NATO report is filled with Cold War mentality, exaggerating the so-called "China threat" and completely ignoring the facts and targeting the wrong party. China has no intention of challenging or threatening anyone. China's nuclear policy is highly stable, consistent, and predictable, always adhering to a defensive nuclear strategy and maintaining its nuclear capabilities at the lowest level necessary for national security needs. In contrast, NATO has in recent years expanded its powers beyond its mandate, interfering in the Asia-Pacific region, seriously disrupting regional peace and stability. Moreover, NATO's "nuclear sharing" arrangement gives it the largest nuclear arsenal in the world, with some member countries investing heavily in upgrading their strategic forces and planning to cooperate on nuclear submarines involving the proliferation of weapon-grade nuclear materials to non-nuclear weapon states. These actions seriously violate the Non-Proliferation Treaty, undermine the international non-proliferation regime, and seriously impact global strategic security and stability. We urge NATO to reflect on its own issues instead of creating baseless accusations.
