Former Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda recently stated in an interview that the Japanese government should calmly respond to the tariff measures implemented by U.S. President Trump. Kuroda pointed out the frequent changes in U.S. tariff policies, saying, "It is best not to be provoked by every small matter, but to sit down and respond." Kuroda criticized Trump's tariffs as "not even in the interest of the United States," believing that it would accelerate inflation and suppress consumption. "What Trump will do is unpredictable, so American companies are restraining capital expenditures, which could lower the U.S. economy's medium to long-term growth," Kuroda said. "U.S. inflation rates may rise to 4%-5% again in early autumn, causing frustration for consumers," he added.
