Sources say that the United States may soon begin deporting immigrants to Libya via military flights.
According to reports, three U.S. officials said on Tuesday that the United States may deport immigrants to Libya for the first time this week, despite Washington's previous condemnation of Libya's human rights practices and harsh treatment of detainees. Two of the officials said the U.S. military could potentially airlift these immigrants to the North African country as early as Wednesday, but they emphasized that the plan could still change. The Pentagon has referred the issue to the White House. The U.S. White House, State Department, and Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to media requests for comments. It is reported that it is unclear how many immigrants will be sent to Libya, and it is also uncertain the nationality of the individuals the U.S. President Trump administration is considering deporting. U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo said last week that the United States is not satisfied with only sending immigrants to El Salvador.
