The Lighthouse Research Institute released the May 6th report on the May Day movie market insights, showing that the box office for the May Day holiday in 2025 reached 747 million yuan. During this period, the average daily box office was 150 million yuan, a decrease compared to the same period last year. The report stated that during the 2025 May Day holiday, "Dumpling Queen," "Hunt for GoldGame," and "Princess of the Night" led the box office with 192 million yuan, 135 million yuan, and 69.59 million yuan respectively. "Princess of the Night" ranked first in audience word-of-mouth with a score of 9.7 on Taopiaopiao among films released during the same period. This year's May Day holiday saw the phenomenon-level animated film "Nezha: The Devil Child's Great Adventure" contributing to over 8% of the total box office. It is worth mentioning that among all new ticket buyers during the May Day holiday, 14.3% were attracted by this film. The report pointed out that the box office contributions of films during the holiday were dispersed, with the top five films only accounting for 70% of the total box office. The champion film "Dumpling Queen" did not break 200 million yuan in box office revenue during its run, lacking an absolute top film compared to previous years. The top film's box office contribution was relatively low, with only the champion and runner-up films accounting for over 10% of the total box office, while the combined box office of films ranking sixth and onwards reached 30%, a first for the holiday period.
