OpenAI abandons profit transformation plan, non-profit sector continues to lead the company.

Facing continuous pressure from former employees, scholars, and competitors such as billionaire Elon Musk, OpenAI has decided to abandon its plan to transition into a traditional profit-making enterprise. On May 5th, the developer of ChatGPT announced that it will push for the restructuring of the profit-making division into a nonprofit enterprise, but the overall business will still be controlled by the nonprofit division. This major adjustment essentially maintains OpenAI's current basic structure. Brett Taylor, Chairman of the OpenAI Board of Directors, stated in a declaration, "After listening to the opinions of civic leaders and engaging in constructive dialogues with the Attorney General's Offices of Delaware and California, we have decided to continue having the nonprofit division control OpenAI." The aforementioned two states are responsible for reviewing this restructuring. "We appreciate the collaboration of both government agencies and look forward to continuing to advance this important dialogue."
