On May 4th, local time, US President Trump announced that a 100% tariff would be imposed on all foreign-made films entering the US. The White House stated on May 5th that a final decision had not been made yet. Some professionals in the film industry have pointed out that this move by the Trump administration is a disaster for Hollywood. Roxborough, the head of the European branch of "Hollywood Reporter," pointed out that American film production companies have been gradually shifting their production to overseas areas such as the UK, Canada, and Australia because of local economic incentives such as tax breaks. If the US does not introduce incentives to reduce the cost of film production, there may be very few film production companies willing to return to the US. Additionally, Roxborough expressed concern about the response from other affected countries, especially considering that Europe is one of the main export markets for American films.
