European Commission Vice-President Teresa Ribera said on Monday that Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith told the European Commission that whether or not they agree, Microsoft will comply with EU regulations. In a chat with reporters, Ribera said, "I think the more valuable approach is to acknowledge that if we want to operate in this market, we must follow the rules. We must respect the rules rather than simply say 'you are targeting me because I am American'." Microsoft announced last month that it will separate its chat and video app Teams from its Office software sales globally. Six months ago, Microsoft separated these two products in Europe to avoid potential EU antitrust fines.
