Greg Abel has been serving as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway since 2026.
On Monday, sources said that the board of Berkshire Hathaway unanimously voted to appoint Greg Abel as the company's president and CEO, starting from next year. This officially begins the transition period as Warren Buffett, who has been steering the conglomerate for 60 years, steps down as CEO. Reports stated that he will continue to serve as chairman of the board. Last Saturday, Buffett announced his resignation as CEO at the end of the year, surprising shareholders. Before announcing this plan, Abel and most members of the Berkshire board were unaware of his plans. Buffett had previously stated that the board would meet on Sunday to discuss the transition.
