Thousands of tourists stranded overnight in Zhangjiajie shout for refunds? Local report: Apologize and will effectively improve the level of tourism management and reception services.
On May 4th, the Tourism Work Committee Office of the Communist Party of China in Wulingyuan District, Zhangjiajie City, issued a situation report. On May 2, 2025, there was a sharp increase in visitors in Wulingyuan District of Zhangjiajie City. During the peak period of return traffic from 19:20 to 20:30 that evening, there was congestion on some sections of the road from the South Gate of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park to Wulingyuan City, causing vehicles to be blocked and affecting the efficiency of the connecting Chengjing tourist special line vehicles. Some visitors were stranded at the Qifeng Pavilion waiting area outside the South Gate of the scenic area. After the situation occurred, our district immediately increased traffic guidance efforts and added more shuttle vehicles. All tourists were picked up by 21:53. The report pointed out that in order to handle the May Day holiday tourism reception work well, the district had measures such as having all staff in tourism-related positions on duty, opening the scenic area early, extending service hours, and implementing scheduled appointments by time and station. However, there were still issues such as long wait times for tourists to ride elevators, cable cars, and eco-friendly vehicles. "This reflects that our district still has significant shortcomings in comprehensive management capacity during peak tourism periods. We sincerely apologize to all affected tourists."
