He also added that "finding ways to increase defense spending in the near future" will be the task of the Spanish government. Trump once called on NATO allies to increase military spending to up to 5%. Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez stated on April 2 that Spain's defense spending in 2024 is the lowest among NATO members at 1.3% of GDP. Spain aims to meet NATO's goal of defense spending at 2% of GDP this year, earlier than their self-set deadline of 2029.
