Guotai Haitong released a research report that according to statistics from the National Energy Administration, as of March, the country's cumulative installed electricity generation capacity reached 3.43 billion kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%. By March 2025, the total electricity consumption of the whole society was 828.2 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 4.8% (1-2 months 1.3%). Currently, it appears that the further north, the better the thermal power electricity price: the high proportion of new energy and the time-sharing scarcity of thermal power are evident. At the same time, the decrease in annual long-term electricity prices in the south this year has also put pressure on southern thermal power plants, which have shifted from pursuing electricity quantity to pursuing electricity price and efficiency. Recently, spot electricity prices in the south have also begun to rise. The likelihood of the bottoming out of electricity prices in the north is already high, and regional differences still exist in the south. In the future, we may witness two historical firsts: an increase in spot electricity prices in 2025 and an increase in annual long-term prices in 2026.
