Japan and the United States discuss trade and tariff exemptions without touching on the issue of exchange rates.
Japan's chief negotiator, Akase Ryo, stated that he had specific discussions with the United States on non-tariff barriers and is focused on expanding trade and economic security cooperation between the two countries. Akase reiterated Japan's request for tariff exemptions during meetings with US Treasury Secretary Bennett, trade representative Jamieson Greer, and Commerce Secretary Lutnick. He stated after trade negotiations with American counterparts on Thursday that exchange rates and national security did not become topics of discussion during the negotiations.
