According to reports, Microsoft is changing its legal representation for a shareholder case, replacing the law firm that reached a settlement with the Trump administration to avoid punitive executive orders with a law firm that opposes the White House. Court documents show that Microsoft has hired the law firm Jenner & Block to replace Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in the lawsuit by Delaware state court over Microsoft's $690 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The documents do not specify the reason for the change. In a statement to the media, Microsoft said that Simpson Thacher will continue to represent them in other matters, but did not provide further details. There are many reasons for a company to change legal teams, including cost-saving or avoiding conflicts between lawyers and clients. Jenner and three other companies are suing the Trump administration over executive orders that have revoked their security clearances, restricted their access to government buildings, and attempted to cancel federal contracts held by their clients.
