According to five trade and industry sources who spoke to Reuters, Qatar Petroleum, one of the world's largest liquefied natural gas suppliers, is in negotiations with Japanese companies for a long-term supply agreement for its North Field expansion project. Four sources stated that, under the agreement, Qatar will supply natural gas to a consortium of Japanese importers, with at least 3 million tons of gas being distributed among these importers annually. If an agreement is reached, it will help solidify Doha's dominant position in the Japanese market for decades, amid increased competition from suppliers in the United States and neighboring Gulf countries like Qatar.
