In the Changdu Converter Station of the Qinghai-Tibet HVDC Interconnection Project located in Golmud City, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province, with the successful completion of the commissioning test of the third newly installed converter transformer, the electrical equipment installation progress of the second phase expansion project of the Qinghai-Tibet HVDC Interconnection Project has exceeded 50%, achieving significant progress. The Qinghai-Tibet HVDC Interconnection Project is the first "electricity highway" leading to Tibet, as well as a direct current transmission green channel for transmitting electricity out of Tibet during the abundant water period and importing electricity into Tibet during the dry season. As an important part of the second phase expansion project of the Qinghai-Tibet HVDC Interconnection Project, the second phase expansion project of the 400 kV Changdu Converter Station started construction in May 2024 and is scheduled to be put into operation in September of this year. This is the first time in China that an expansion project is carried out in an already operational HVDC converter station.
