Due to this, most flights in and out of Wellington by Air New Zealand have been cancelled. Air New Zealand stated that the severe weather is expected to impact all flights on May 1st. On that day, the Selwyn District in New Zealand declared a state of emergency, with local government urging residents in certain areas to evacuate.
