The China Meteorological Administration issued a yellow alert for meteorological drought at 18:00 on April 30. Since April 1 this year, areas in southern North China, eastern Northwest China, northern Central China, central and northern East China, most of South China, and southern Southwest China have experienced below-average precipitation and higher temperatures, leading to a rapid development of meteorological drought. According to the meteorological drought monitoring on April 30, moderate to severe meteorological drought exists in large parts of Shaanxi, southern Shanxi, most of Henan, most of Anhui, most of Hubei, central and southern Jiangsu, western and southern Guangxi, and central Yunnan. Particularly severe drought is observed in southern Shaanxi, western Henan, southern Jiangsu, and southern Guangxi. It is forecasted that in the next 3 days, there will be moderate to heavy rainfall in northern and central South China, and southern Yunnan, which will help alleviate meteorological drought. However, most other drought-affected areas will continue to receive little rainfall, leading to the persistence or further development of meteorological drought.
