On April 29th, the China Iron and Steel Industry Association held a forum on the economic performance of some steel enterprises in the first quarter in Beijing. The meeting pointed out that in the first quarter of this year, steel enterprises overcame the challenges of a complex and severe external environment, actively practiced self-discipline and production control, and the operational efficiency of most enterprises improved significantly compared to the same period last year, with the majority of enterprises achieving a "good start". However, in March, some individual enterprises increased production intensity when the operating situation improved, which brought certain pressure to the industry's operation in the following months. Tang Zujun, Vice Chairman of the Steel Association, pointed out that from the internal situation, China is currently in the process of transitioning from old to new driving forces, and the demand for downstream steel industry in the country may still show a slight decline this year. Although the overall operation of steel enterprises in the first quarter of this year has seen significant improvement, it is based on the low base of last year. Currently, the overall efficiency of the industry is still at a relatively low level in recent years, and the industry's sales profit margin is still significantly lower than the industrial average. Therefore, steel enterprises still need to overall grasp the production pace, implement production restrictions policies well, and avoid the worsening of supply and demand contradictions.
