The Taiwan Affairs Office introduces the recent cross-strait exchanges situation.
On April 30th, the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference. During the meeting, a reporter asked about the recent activities of Song Tao, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office. Song Tao has attended cross-strait exchange events in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, and other places, meeting with important figures from Taiwan such as Hung Hsiu-chu, Lien Sheng-wen, and Liu Zhaoxuan, drawing high attention from both sides of the strait. Can you provide more information about these events?
Spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhu Fenglian, stated that recently, Song Tao met with former chairperson of the Kuomintang, Hung Hsiu-chu, in Nanjing, Jiangsu on April 17th. On April 18th, he had a discussion with representatives of Taiwan businessmen in mainland China and visited some Taiwanese youths participating in "Nanjing Taiwan Week." On April 19th, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, he met with Lien Sheng-wen, deputy chairperson of the Kuomintang, and other Taiwan guests, and on April 20th, he attended a cross-strait grassroots livelihood development exchange meeting with the theme "strengthening people-to-people exchanges to enhance the well-being of compatriots." On April 21st, in Chengdu, Sichuan, he met with Liu Zhaoxuan, chairman of the Taiwan side of the Cross-Strait Entrepreneurs Summit, and on April 22nd, he attended the Sichuan Exchange Meeting on Cross-Strait Integration Development with the theme "cultivating new dynamics together for integrated development."
These activities demonstrate the efforts of the CPC Central Committee's Taiwan Work Office and the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office to promote cross-strait exchanges and cooperation and support Taiwanese businesses and enterprises. In the face of the increasingly confrontational stance and trade conflicts imposed by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities and the United States, these actions send a clear signal of firm commitment to deepening cross-strait integration and development, genuine concern for the interests and well-being of Taiwanese compatriots and businesses, and resolute opposition to "Taiwan independence" and external interference. Various sectors and Taiwanese businessmen have actively participated in these activities, expressing confidence in rooting themselves in mainland China for development. They believe that the mainland's institutional advantages and economic resilience are fundamental safeguards against risks, and that the comprehensive industrial system, vast market space, and enormous investment and consumption potential in mainland China are supported by governments at all levels. Taiwanese businessmen and enterprises are supportive of the country's retaliatory measures against the United States and are confident in winning the trade war together with the country, achieving sustained and healthy development in mainland China. Compatriots on both sides of the strait are like one big family and should engage in frequent and deep exchanges. The attempt by the DPP authorities to create a "chilling effect" on cross-strait exchanges is unpopular and doomed to fail.
