General Motors has withdrawn its profit guidance for 2025 and suspended its $4 billion stock buyback plan until a clearer assessment of the impact of US tariffs is made. The company's decision to withdraw forecasts and partially suspend stock buybacks highlights how President Trump's trade policy is disrupting US companies' business plans. As more and more US companies withdraw profit forecasts in the face of additional burdens from import tariffs and retaliation from US trading partners, "since the original guidance did not include tariff effects, the previous guidance cannot be used as a basis," said the company's Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson during a conference call with reporters. "We will update guidance based on more information on tariffs."
