Institution: UK's food inflation rate in April hits 11-month high, store prices facing further upward pressure
The survey released on Tuesday showed that the rise in food prices in April in the UK soared to the highest level in nearly a year. The survey stated that the increase in retail costs could bring further upward pressure on store prices. The British Retail Consortium warned that as the industry faces rising cost pressures, including the new packaging tax that will take effect in October, the pressure on price increases in the coming months will further intensify. Data shows that food prices in April rose by 2.6% year-on-year, an increase from 2.4% in March, and marking the largest increase since May 2024 when prices rose by 3.2%.
