Most of Spain and parts of Portugal experienced a power outage around midday on Monday, affecting electricity and telephone services. The power outage caused public transport, traffic lights, and telephone services in parts of Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon to be disrupted, with many trains also being suspended. According to two statements, the government and the electricity grid operator Red Electrica are investigating the cause of the power outage. Spanish operators on X stated that utility companies have activated emergency plans. The Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands were not affected and markets are operating normally.
