The first domestic project that utilizes power plant waste heat for seawater desalination has been put into operation.

Today, the first project in our country to use the waste heat from power plants to desalinate seawater was put into operation in Yantai, Shandong. After completion, the project can provide 1.08 billion tons of fresh water resources annually, effectively alleviating the local shortage of fresh water resources. The Wanhua Chemical Penglai Seawater Desalination Project is jointly invested by China and France, with a total investment of 1.8 billion yuan. It is constructed in three phases, with each phase producing 100,000 tons of fresh water per day.
